The renewal plan for tyres gets more precise

Last March, the news of a subvention from the Government when buying new tyres caught the interest of many Spanish consumers. The executive offered an incentive of 20€ for each tyre renewed for one of the so-called ecological, as a new energy saving measure.

However, this measure was announced too soon as motorists could note that the tyres which features matched the requirements of the renewal plan did not exist. This caused a considerable decrease of the business in the mounting workshops.

The drivers that had planned to change the tyres suddenly postponed their visit to the professional, waiting for a clarification of the plan’s conditions. This situation led to a 50% drop of the sales compared to other weeks’ figures.

In addition, workshops fear now that the expectations raised exceed the renewal plan for tyres, provided only with €4.8 million and affecting 240,000 units (60,000 vehicles).

On April 25th, CONEPA (Spanish Federation of Automotive Professional Entrepreneurs) has issued a press release announcing the regulatory bases of this plan have been established. In the document are reflected the requirements to access the catalogue of the IDEA tyres of the renewal plan, as well as the dates manufacturers and importers have to ask for the inclusion of their products in the catalogue and the deadline for consumers to make their purchases or to present aid applications.
